Pastoral Experience

Dr. Covey holds Holy Orders as a Celtic Carmelite Priest and Monk and is a licensed psychologist.   He holds earned doctorates in Theology (Th. D.) and in Psychology (Ph. D.)  He has more than forty-eight (48) years of pastoral experience and has served in both small, rural churches and large, multi-staff urban churches.   He has served pastorates in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

He has been married to his wife Ellen for forty-seven (47) years.  They are the parents of two adult sons, who are both married.  One son and his wife have a daughter and a son, while the other son and his wife have two sons and a daughter.  He and Ellen are still best friends.  He places a strong emphasis upon marital commitment and the importance of the family.   When the children were young, he coached soccer and basketball teams in order to spend more time with his sons.

In his varied background in the pastorate, teaching, and counseling, as well as life in general,  Dr. Covey has experienced the call of God directing his life.   The major focus of his ministry is sharing the love and grace of God with people.   The teachings of Holy Scripture undergird his counseling with people who are experiencing emotional pain in their lives.  He encourages people to be open to the transforming power of Christ in their lives.

Dr. Covey enjoys counseling, spiritual direction, preaching and teaching.   He is available for a wide array of church activities, such as  Preaching; Leading Church Retreats;  Leading Pastoral Workshops; and Spiritual Direction.   He also speaks on specific topics such as:
